Welcome to the Chicago Acting in Film Meetup

If you're a working actor in film, we want you.

Founded in 2007, with the goal of helping its members become smarter Chicago actors, The Chicago Acting in Film Meetup, NFP (CAFM) has established itself as the premier co-mentoring and educational group for working film actors in Chicago.

This group is for actors committed to empowering each other to become a more positive and powerful force in our industry.  We offer you the opportunity to grow with us as we help shape the Chicago acting and production community.

CAFM Celebrates Seven Years Of Support

Film Actors Nonprofit Hosts Mix & Mingle To Help Community TV Network And The 2014 Film Actor Generals

CHICAGO, August 29, 2014— The Chicago Acting in Film Meetup NFP, Chicago’s premiere nonprofit group for film actors, kicks off its seventh year with a mixer event for the entire production community. The CAFM Mix & Mingle happens Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Kensington Roof Garden & Lounge (811 N Orleans, Chicago, Illinois 60654). Admission is $20 (cash only). Part of the proceeds will support their partnership with Community TV Network (CTVN).

“August 18th marked CAFM’s sevenyear anniversary of empowering film actors in Chicago,” says CAFM Founder and Board President Grace McPhillips. “I am very proud we've reached this milestone, and we are grateful to our members and all the industry pros who’ve helped us get here. This community has grown in the last seven years, and we’re ready for seven more!”

The group just assembled their 2014 Generals Guide, with headshots, resumes, and recently taped auditions from more than 50 CAFM actors. The Guide offers indie filmmakers and student filmmakers an easy way to cast their upcoming projects with a variety of acting talent. “We’re also sending copies to the casting houses and area film schools,” says McPhillips, “and student and independent filmmakers can buy their copy at our Mix & Mingle.”

CAFM has helped support its 130 working film actors through a variety of private and public educational and networking activities. Their events, board of directors, and committees from Development to Giving Back, are all run by volunteers with a staff person helping. Along with holding 100 monthly meetups since 2007, CAFM’s highlights include running workshops and interviews with film directors and casting directors, creating and organizing CIMMFest panels like “A Woman’s Place Is On A Set: The Future of Female Filmmakers,” and “Cutting Through The Bullshit: SelfMarketing and Networking That Works For You,” and coorganizing last year’s successful Chicago Film + Media Summit.

“Part of our mission is to collaborate with the entire production community,” says CAFM Board Vice President Steve Scholz, “because we know sustainable acting careers grow here when we support each other. We’re glad our events continue to connect people for creative projects and worthy causes.”

To that end, CAFM is donating 10% of their Mix & Mingle ticket sales to their partnership with CTVN for a Youth Filmmaking Project set to begin this winter. “We were fortunate to be the beneficiaries of

the Masked Rabbit charity event in March,”says CAFM Board Member and Development Committee CoChair Katia Gomez. “Those funds are also earmarked for our CTVN partnership. We’re excited to support young filmmakers from atrisk areas, and give them the benefit of having working actors in their short films.”

And after seven years, CAFM has more in store for Chicago. “We’ve got some great guests for our members this fall, plus our annual party, the Holiday Hurrah, on December 15th,” says McPhillips. “We’d love to see everyone at the Kensington this Friday as we cap off the end of a busy summer. So stop by after work, or spend the entire evening lounging on the scenic roof!”

CAFM will be running a drink tab from 6:307:30 p.m. featuring a selection of alcoholic beverages. For more details, see their Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/644284755662177/ To learn more about CAFM, visit www.ChicagoActingInFilm.org.
